Project lead: User journey & Technical roadmap
Timeframe: 2 months
Objective
I was a co-founder of a new design thinking method focusing on sustainability outcomes, which then enabled me to work on digital innovation projects focusing on sustainability, from both a UX/service design and consultative perspective. I worked with the Sustainability Accelerator (an initiative focusing on supporting environmentally at-risk communities across the world) to lead an engagement with an international NGO focusing on utilising technologies to improve farming practices in East Africa. The objective of the engagement was to establish the background of the project and build out a technical roadmap articulating the work to be achieved across the following phases, underpinned by a core user journey.
Approach
The first part of this engagement focused on running workshops and documenting processes. My role included:
Synthesising previous work and creating a project plan
Interviewing and engaging with technical and industry SMEs from different parts of IBM around the globe
Planning workshop objectives and agenda
Running workshops with stakeholders and SMEs in the different regions we were focusing on to gather the as-is journey
Running ideation workshops with stakeholders and SMEs in the different regions to create a backlog of concepts
Leading the multi-disciplinary team on all activities, including architects, researchers and designers
The second part of this engagement focused on creating a to-be journey and technical roadmap for implementation in following quarters. My role included:
Leading the multi-disciplinary team on all activities
Guiding the team in shaping a to-be journey and future state story across the different users involved
Creating the future state story in the form of a ‘golden thread’ journey map, highlighting the improvements in the experience and the measurements to determine success
Consulting technical SMEs throughout the delivery
Guiding the team in delivering a technical roadmap which highlighted the technologies, architecture and time frame for activities
Leading review sessions with key stakeholders
“Golden thread” user journey highlighting the user scenarios/story, sustainability goals met and technology involved.
Outcomes
The key outcomes for this work included:
Delivery of a ‘golden thread’ user journey showcasing storytelling for the future experience, sustainability goals to be met, technologies involved and metrics to measure the experience
Delivery of a technical roadmap showcasing the technical architecture and plan for work in following quarters
Final presentations made to key stakeholders, SMEs and wider IBM
